A collection of 47 projects that can be used in stand-alone IT classes or as ICT projects within other subjects.

 

The projects provide teachers with ideas and activities to assist with the teaching of software related tasks.

 

The projects are provided as a PDF file and as individual Word documents, which can be modified to suit the teacher's needs and a full site licence allows the projects can be used thoughout the school.

The projects cover Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Web Page Authoring, Publishing, Animation, Photoshop, Presentations, Movie Production and Computer Aided Design; ranging from years 7 to 12 and include planning suggestions.

Project Descriptions

 

 

Chapter 1: Word Processing Projects

 

Instructions to plan and complete word-processed documents are provided.

Project 1: Film or TV Show Review. Year 7 or 8 task. Students select a movie or TV show, brain-storm the topic, plan their solution and use a word processor to produce the solution which should include sub-headings, bullets and/or tables.

 

Project 2: Family Tree. Year 7 or 8 task. Students use a word processor's Drawing Tools to create their family tree for the last three generations. Photos of family members can be included.

 

Project 3: Safety in the Science Room. Year 7 or 8 task. Students use a word processor's Drawing Tools to create a poster highlighting the school rules for working in a Science lab.

 

Project 4: HomeHelpers. Year 8 or 9 task. Students are provided with information about a home help company and they are required to produce a 2-page document displaying that information so that it can be used to advertise the company.

 

Project 5: Survey. Year 8 or 9 task. Students are required to design and create a survey form, use the form to collect some data and display the results in a table and chart.

 

Project 6: Resume and Job Application. Year 9 or 10 task. Students produce a personal resume followed by a job application letter for a part-time job at a supermarket.

 

Project 7: Jenson Real Estate. Year 9 or 10 task. Students produce an advertising flyer displaying available properties for a real estate company and an explanatory letter which is mail-merged to customers. Mailing labels of customer addresses are also required.

 

 

 

Chapter 2: Spreadsheet Projects

 

Instructions to plan and complete spreadsheets are provided.

 

Project 1: Calculations. Year 7 or 8 task. Calculations on the cost of holidays offered by a travel agent are completed and charts created to display the results.

 

Project 2: Payroll. Year 8 or 9 task. A simple payroll is created using calculations for Gross Pay, Tax, Superannuation and Net Pay.

 

Project 3: Charts. Year 8 or 9 task. A series of charts need to be created to show how successful a motor show has been.

 

Project 4: Sales Invoice System. Year 10 or 11 task. Students create a sales invoice for an electronics company and link the invoice to a stock list using lookup commands and IF statements.

 

Project 5: Payroll/Payslip task. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A detailed payroll is required which is then linked to create individual pay slips for employees of a car service company.

 

Project 6: Budget Management System. Year 11 or 12 task. Students set up budget worksheets for 3 faculties of a school and link them to a worksheet that monitors the spending of each faculty so that monthly reports can be produced for the School Council.

 

Project 7: Ordering System. Year 11 or 12 task. Students set up an ordering system for a company that sells computer software. It involves creating a sales invoice and linking it to a stock list.

 

 

 

Chapter 3: Database Projects

 

Instructions to plan and complete databases are provided.

 

Project 1: Student Survey. Year 7 or 8 task. Students collect data from other students on selected topics, enter that data into a database and produce reports to show the results of the survey.

 

Project 2: Data Entry. Year 8, 9 or 10 task. Students are required to set up a data enty screen for a Vetenarian Clinic to make the enty of data easier and more accurate.

 

Project 3: Software Library. Year 8, 9 or 10 task. A database is required to record some of the software that a school has purchased and to arrange the database so that the whole school community can access the information.

 

Project 4: Andersons Real Estate. Year 9 or 10 task. A database is required to manage the rental properties for a real estate agency.

 

Project 5: Job Search Personnel Management Group. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A database is required to record the client details for a company that finds employment for clients. The data is then used to match clients to available jobs.

 

Project 6: Silicon Hi-Fi. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A database is required to produce a sales invoicing system that imports data from related customer and product tables (or files).

 

 

 

Chapter 4: Web Page Authoring Projects

 

Instructions to plan and complete web pages are provided.

 

Project 1: Harrison Autos. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web site for a used car sales company is required. This includes pages for different car types (small, family and sports) and an order form to arrange a test drive of a car.

 

Project 2: The Australian Society of Architects. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web site to inform practicing architects of developments in their field is required. This includes pages advertising up coming events, new developments and an online membership form.

 

Project 3: Quantum Electronics. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web site for a stereo product manufacturer is required. This includes pages displaying a product list, new releases and an order form for dealers to order products online.

 

Project 4: Horizon Publishing. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web site for a publishing company that publishes school texts is required. This includes pages displaying new releases, current titles and an order form so that schools can order books online.

 

Project 5: Stewarts Real Estate. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web site for a real estate agency is required. This includes pages displaying new releases, current properties and an order form so that customers can book property inspections online.

 

Project 6: Responsive Web Sites. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web site that can be viewed on mobile, tablet and desktop screens is created.

 

Project 7: The Bookstrap Framework. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A web page is designed using the Bookstrap Framework.

 

 

 

Chapter 5: Publishing Projects


Instructions to plan and complete publications are provided.

 

Project 1: Home Bodies. Year 9 or 10 task. A publication that can be letter-box dropped is required for a company that provides handyman services.

 

Project 2: The Society of Architects. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A group of practicing architects require their monthly newsletter designed and produced.

 

Project 3: Sunset Publishing. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A publishing company that publishes school texts requires a more professional way if informing schools about the books it publishes.

 

Project 4: Antonio's Ristorante. Year 11 or 12 task. An Italian restaurant requires a publication that can more effectively advertise itself to the local community.

 

 

 

Chapter 6: Animation Projects

 

Instructions to plan and complete animations are provided.

 

Project 1: Animations. Year 9 or 10 task. Students choice a topic from a provided list and produce animation scenes on that topic.

 

Project 2: Lip-Syncing. Year 10 or 11 task. A face image is created and spoken words added to it.

 

Project 3: Animation Assets. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. The assets from the Assets Panel are used to create detailed animations.

 

Project 4: iTravel. Year 9, 10 or 11 task. A travel agency requires animated advertising for its European tours.

 

 

 

Chapter 7: Photoshop Projects

 

Instructions to plan and complete designs are provided.

 

Project 1: Poster. Year 7, 8 or 9 task. Students choice a topic from a provided list and produce a poster to advertise that topic. Possible topics are provided.

 

Project 2: VicSports. Year 9, 10 or 11 task. Two publications are required to advertise VicSports, a government body set up to encourage students to participate in sport.

 

Project 3: CD Cover. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A folk group Fairport Convention needs a cover got their latest CD, The Streets of London, designed and produced.

 

Project 4: Magazine Cover. Year 11 or 12 task. The cover for the school's magazine or yearbook (or magazine of the student's choice) needs to be designed and produced.

 

 

 

Chapter 8: Presentation Projects


Instructions to plan and complete scenes or slides are provided.

 

Project 1: Where Animals Live. Year 7 task. A series of scenes based on the different places that animals are found needs to be created.

 

Project 2: My Diet. Year 7 or 8 task. Students split the foods they eat into different groups and create scenes on each group.

 

Project 3: Scary Stories. Year 7 or 8 task. Studenst create linked scenes to tell a scary story with animations. Possible story themes are provided.

 

Project 4: Book Review - Holes. Year 8 or 9 task. A series of scenes to review the book, Holes, are needed during or after that book has been studied in English. A different book can be substituted if Holes is not part of the English curriculum.

 

 

 

Chapter 9: Movie Production Projects


Instructions to plan and complete movie editing are provided.

 

Project 1: General Movies. Year 9 or 10 task. A Movie from provided topics is completed.

 

Project 2: Instructional Movies. Year 10 or 11 task. A Movie to teach from provided topics to is completed.

 

 

 

Chapter 10: Computer Aided Design Projects


Instructions to plan and complete designs are provided.

 

Project 1: LaZer Design. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A house plan is needed that can be used by both the builder and a client.

 

Project 2: Technology High School. Year 10, 11 or 12 task. A school needs a new computer lab designed.
